Octavia Powell aka
DJ IllxstMami, Wedding DJ in Madison & Milwaukee
DJ IllxstMami is part of Alternative Wedding DJs, a team of nightclub-trained wedding DJs serving Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She spent fourteen years as a concert violinist before trading the bow for turntables in 2020, and now holds residencies at Roxxy, Cafe Coda and Madison's on King Street, with range from R&B and hip hop to reggaeton, Afrobeats, house and throwback pop. New here? Here's how AWDJ works.
Why couples book DJ IllxstMami
Octavia spent fourteen years as a concert violinist. Then 2020 hit and she put the bow down and picked up turntables because she needed to be around people again. I love that story, and it tells you everything about why she does this. She came up in Illinois, got raised in Texas, went to college in both Texas and Wisconsin, and now she's holding residencies at Roxxy, Cafe Coda and Madison's on King Street. Her crates are, in her words, beautifully chaotic. R&B, hip hop, reggaeton, reggae, house, Afrobeats, country, and throwback pop she makes no apologies for. Fourteen years of classical training means she hears a room differently too. Timing, dynamics, knowing when to build and when to sit back. You can't fake that. Madison based.

What it's like to book Octavia
Booking Octavia works like booking any AWDJ DJ. You get a club-trained DJ who mixes live and reads the room, two full-range speakers and a subwoofer, wireless and corded mics, dancefloor lighting, MC duties, and full reception coordination, for five hours.

Can Octavia DJ a multicultural or multi-generational wedding?
Yes, and that's a lot of why couples pick her. R&B, hip hop, reggaeton, reggae, Afrobeats, house, country and throwback pop are all in the same crate, so a guest list that runs from your college friends to your grandparents stays on one dance floor instead of splitting into three.
